Tigger was right: "If you're gonna pounce, ya got to have some bounce!"

Little Qigong tip: Stand on the balls of your feet, and bounce up and down for 10 minutes everyday. It releases endorphins to make you feel good. And smile as you're bouncing.

I know why it's called Black Friday. It brings out the worst in people. Stephen Colbert was right. You go from a celebration of gluttony to a celebration of greed. You spend money you don't have to buy things you don't need for people you don't like. He said that for comedic purposes, but it rings true.

"Both abundance and lack exist simultaneously in our lives, as parallel realities. It is always our conscious choice which secret garden we will tend… when we choose not to focus on what is missing from our lives but are grateful for the abundance that’s present — love, health, family, friends, work, the joys of nature and personal pursuits that bring us pleasure — the wasteland of illusion falls away and we experience Heaven on earth.” –Sarah Ban Breathnach

"Most of the shadows of this life are caused by our standing in our own sunshine."---Ralph Waldo Emerson

...that when you are ready for grace, grace will arrive. If you expect trouble, trouble will hurry to your door. Look for grace.

"Today, I pray for what I already have, giving thanks."

Be Thankful

Be thankful that you don’t already have everything you desire,
If you did, what would there be to look forward to?

... Be thankful when you don’t know something
For it gives you the opportunity to learn.

Be thankful for the difficult times.
During those times you grow.

Be thankful for your limitations
Because they give you opportunities for improvement.

Be thankful for each new challenge
Because it will build your strength and character.

Be thankful for your mistakes
They will teach you valuable lessons.

Be thankful when you’re tired and weary
Because it means you’ve made a difference.

It is easy to be thankful for the good things.
A life of rich fulfillment comes to those who are
also thankful for the setbacks.

GRATITUDE can turn a negative into a positive.
Find a way to be thankful for your troubles
and they can become your blessings.

He hadn't even said a word yet but I knew he was gay. Scarf fabulously wrapped around his neck, skinny jeans, trendy trainers. I asked his very gruff-sounding dad if he wanted to sit in during the session, and he did. He was obviously concerned for his son, acting protectively like a loving parent would. Father was the complete opposite of his son: unruly hair, beard, grungy workman clothes. It warmed my cold, cynical heart when I heard this very masculine dad talking to his teenage son about dance lessons. Dance lessons!?!

I am glad to have met them. There's hope for us humans.

A beautiful musical moment with a humpback whale.

"When Greg Anderson , founder of The Breast Cancer Charities, was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer and given 30 days to live, an "angel" showed up in his hospital room and told him he needed to "forgive or die." Greg did just that---25 years ago.
The three parts of forgiveness are 1. Bring the person to mind 2. Say " I forgive you. I release you." 3. Imagine them healthy and happy. This can be done in your own mind. Forgiveness is powerful medicine for health and healing. Remember, forgiveness does NOT mean that you condone what a person did. It is to FREE YOURSELF!!"---Dr. Christiane Northrup

"The trouble with quotes on the internet is that it's difficult to determine whether or not they are genuine."---Abraham Lincoln

So excited! The Daily Show has a new Senior Historical Context Correspondent---Ms. Sarah Vowell!

Don't forget to love yourself. —Søren Kierkegaard

I went to see two shows at this year's New York Comedy Festival at the Beacon Theatre. (Bill Maher and Louis C.K., if you must know.) Sitting there waiting for the shows to start, it was interesting to see people sitting next to each other while texting, facebooking, or doing whatever else they were doing on their celphones. Not talking to one other. Ah to be alone with other people! No wonder 1 in 10 Americans are depressed. twitter, Facebook, social media=Social Isolation.

I loved what Louis C.K. said at the announcements before he started his performance. He reminded everyone not to tweet and to turn off their celphones, etc. He said something along the lines of "Just live your life. Stop telling everyone what you're doing." Well said, Louis.

(And yes, I am aware of the irony of posting this on a blog. I almost put it on Facebook, but I didn't want to cause an uproar among my FB friends who ARE telling people every detail of their lives.)

My boss and his wife went to Penn State. Other patients who are fans of their football team have been acting so aggrieved since the sex abuse scandal broke out. They speak in hushed tones, "It wasn't Joe Paterno's fault. He shouldn't have been fired, blah, blah blah..." I have a patient whose daughter is currently enrolled at Penn State and he wore the t-shirt yesterday to show support for the embattled school. My boss gently patted him on the shoulder and said "I feel your pain."

I am horrified and disgusted by the whole thing. The hardcore students rioted in response to the firing of their beloved coach? What about those innocent boys? There is no excuse for the actions/non-actions of the people involved, and my heart goes out to the victims and their families. At least some of the more reasonable students organized a candlelight vigil to remember the victims. And I sure hope those fanatical students are in the minority. I'm glad Jon Stewart put in eloquent words what other people should have thought of and said out loud.

"Life was meant to be happy. Do you believe that? If you don't, then life will have no choice but to play itself out according to your non-belief. Yet if you do believe that life was meant to be happy, it will be. "---Neale Donald Walsch

Something opens our wings. Something makes boredom and hurt disappear. Someone fills the cup in front of us: We taste only sacredness.~ Rumi
