From Hands of Serenity Healing during Hurricane Irene:

"As I sit and watch the tops of the trees torque in the intermittent winds, I can't help but think what a lesson in resilience the trees bring to us. A tree guy once told me that every drop of rain increases the weight of the leaf 100 times. Multiply that by the thousands of leaves the tree bears and imagine the extra weight the tree is carrying. And so the shaking and torquing of the branches actually helps the tree to lessen its burden as it releases the extra weight of the water."
